Shooting Stars

Shooting Stars is an exciting drama series set in the world of South African soccer, charting the fortunes of a number of players and their club over three years leading up to the 2010 World Cup.
The focus of the series is the Shooting Stars - a club who we first encounter when they are relegated from the PSL to the first Super League. The struggle of the club to return to their former glory becomes the backdrop to individual stories of hope, courage, camaraderie, temptation, success and failure.
The story has been structured to be broadcast in three blocks. Each block follows the activities of the players and the club through a soccer season. The story arcs of the characters have been conceived to be told in these blocks and to deliver a complete and satisfying journey over the three years.
Shooting Stars will introduce viewers to a cast of interesting and engaging characters who will be our guides into the passions, intrigue, triumph and drama of the world of the Super League.
The cast of characters is headed by young Wandile Dhlomo (Motlatsi Mafatshe). We follow Wandile as he leaves his humble rural home to pursue his dream of becoming a soccer legend. His rags-to-riches journey is not an easy one. Rather it is full of obstacles and challenges which threaten to derail his dream.
These complications will force him to draw on his inner strength and determination if he wishes to make his dream a reality. Wandile is supported by Duke Opara (Anthony Oseyemi) - a Nigerian player who joins the team in search of fame and fortune but - to his surprise - also finds love and friendship. Other key characters include Sechaba Makayi (Dumisane Mbebe).
Sechaba is Stars' leading player. He is always in the spotlight and almost always with a woman on his arm - women who are not his wife. Initially he is Wandile's hero - until Sechaba becomes threatened by Wandile's talent and reveals his true nature. Muzi Mpetla (Anele Matoti) is the goalkeeper of the team. He's the joker with the heart of gold.
