Scheherazade Safla is a newsworthy storyteller on eNews Prime Time
Email Scheherazade Safla

Weekend prime time anchor Scheherazade Safla was named after a legendary Persian queen, who was a born storyteller and captured the attention of a king, who beheaded his wives in One Thousand and One Nights.

Following her namesake in the art of storytelling, Shez, as she is affectionately known in the newsroom, pursued a career in journalism. She started out as a freelancer working for a newspaper (The Witness) in Pietermaritzburg,in addition to being a broadcast assistant in London before joining the eNews team in 2002. From humble beginnings as an intern, to working her way up to a producer, Shez became a full-time anchor in 2008.

As one of the glamorous faces of eNews she has interviewed former President Nelson Mandela thrice but was only allowed to ask one question each time. At home, she is a wife and mother to three-year-old, Azhad and two-year-old, Zarin.

Tragedy struck in December 2007 when she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had to undergo an operation to remove the cancerous cells. Shez received radioactive treatment and is still on chronic medication.

Given a clean bill of health, she lovingly spends her free time scrapbooking and planning her kids' birthday parties.
