If ever there was a tragic heroine of a long-standing soapie, then surely it must be the beautiful and vivacious Nikki Newman. For nearly 30 years, Nikki has regaled soapie addicts with her tales of love, loss and infidelities.
Rising above her dubious early careers as a stripper and prostitute, Nikki has emerged as a loving wife, caring mother and a savvy businesswoman. The great love of her life is the suave, sexy and ruthless CEO of Newman Enterprises, Victor Newman. She and Victor have been married and divorced three times and have two grown children, Victoria Newman Hellstrom and Nicholas 'Nick' Newman.
Currently the CEO of Jabot Cosmetics, Nikki is determined not to live in Victor's shadow. Despite a $100 million dollar divorce settlement from Victor and the loss of ownership of NVP Retreats, Nikki has refused to let it get her down and is channelling her energies into Jabot Cosmetics.
Nikki was recently widowed ,following the death of her 7th husband, David Chow, whom she sought comfort in after Victor cruelly pushed her away in the wake of their son's supposed death. David, however, was a seriously shady character with a dangerous gambling addiction and a long list of mysteriously vanished ex-wives.
Nikki's best friend is Paul Williams, whom she dated briefly before meeting Victor. Paul is obviously very protective of Nikki and thus investigated David beofre his untimely death with the help of J.T Hellstrom ( Nikki's son-in-law) and Victor, to ensure Nikki's safety.
Between business, divorces and motherhood, Nikki is also the glamorous grandmother of Noah Newman (Nick Newman and Sharon Newman Abbott's son), Summer Ann Newman ( Nick Newman and Phyllis Summers Newman's daughter) and Reed Hellstrom ( Victoria Newman Hellstrom and J.T Hellstorm's son).
Nikki has been played with vigour by the gorgeous actress Melody Thomas Scott since 1979. Melody has appeared in various movies, including the Clint Eastwood classic Dirty Harry, and was offered a bit-part in the TV hit Charlie's Angles.
Melody has been married to the supervising producer of Y&R, Edward J. Scott, for 24 years and they have three daughters together, Elizabeth, Alexandra and Jennifer.
