Job Title: Team Leader

Department: On Air 

Reports to (Function): General Manager: On Air Operations

Job Purpose  :

Managing all FCC operations to ensure the smooth running of all transmission services from the eMedia    playout facilities and providing operational support for all channels.

Managing FCC staff and coordinating work schedules which ensure that a high standard of proactive monitoring is maintained across channels.

Major Accountabilities  (Describe the main results of the job to be achieved )

 

  1. Operations Management
  • Ensuring the smooth running of all services originating from eMedia playout facilities and providing operational support for all channels.
  • Managing the input and output of information in the control room.
  • Maintaining a high standard of proactive monitoring and consistently ensuring that services are broadcast according to schedule and with high quality.
  • Diagnosing and analysing faults within a highly technical environment and working to tight deadlines. 
  • Coordinating and implementing solutions when and if required.
  • Documenting and tracking of all issues affecting FCC operations.
  • Planning, developing and updating operating procedures.
  • Ensuring that standard operating procedures are communicated to all team members and implemented.
  • Attending to all technical matters arising from FCC.
  1. System Control
  • Ensuring that all issues related to the automation system and transmission equipment are reported to Engineering.  Following up on issues until they are resolved.
  • Supporting the coordination of hand over and hand back of live systems for changes or maintenance whilst ensuring systems are fully operational.
  • Ensuring that the controllers are operating the automation and transmission equipment in the correct manner.
  1. Workflow Management
  • Planning and developing workflows to improve the operating processes and efficiency of the departments.
  • Patrolling and checking for problems, monitoring progress and transmission quality.
  • Transferring knowledge and information to final control teams.
  1. Analysis and Reports
  • Investigating faults reported by transmission controllers on shift and ensuring that the point of origin has been identified and resolved. Providing feedback where solutions are pending.
  • Providing timeous and accurate reports of all broadcasts related issues.
  • Liaising with relevant stakeholders for solutions.
  • Directing staff in the development, analysis and preparation of reports.
  • Following e.tv’s policies and procedures, participate in e.tv’s objective to be a safe and healthy workplace, and reporting any issues to GM: On Air Operations.
  1. Employee Management
  • Supporting the goals, strategic plans and management decisions. 
  • Ensuring that all team members are in compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Recruiting, inducting and training of new employees.
  • Monitoring employee performance; counselling, coaching or correcting as appropriate.
  • Maintaining Attendance Records.
  • Compiling shift roster for all FCCs and ensuring that it is followed. 
  • Acting as a stand-by person when there is a shortage of resources.
  • Scheduling and conducting department meetings.
  • Maintaining of team work and staff discipline.
  • Motivating and encouraging optimal performance from all staff.
  • Conducting performance reviews with staff and design development plans.
  • Setting achievable and agreed performance standards.

    Key Performance Indicators 
     Performance will only be satisfactory when:

Job Dimensions 

Number of Employees: Direct: 30 

Ideal Background  (State the minimum and desirable education and experience level)

EducationA relevant qualification in Film and Television would be advantageous

Languages: Business English

Experience:  A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Final Control Centre.

A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Senior Transmission Controller.
