About
Sacrifice is a tense action-thriller starring Cuba Gooding Jr. as John Hebron, a troubled undercover cop whose life spirals into danger when he’s thrust into a deadly crime ring.
John Hebron is haunted by guilt after his wife and daughter were killed during a failed undercover operation. He pours himself into alcohol and neglects his home until a young drug dealer named Mike leaves his five-year-old sister, Angel, under John’s care. When Mike is murdered and Angel is kidnapped, John must summon his courage and skills to rescue her from ruthless criminals.
To help him, he turns to Father Porter, played by Christian Slater. Porter is a former special forces soldier turned conflicted priest, carrying the burden of survivor’s guilt from losing his comrades. Together, they follow a winding trail involving a heroin statue disguised as religious art, gang threats, and violent clashes.
The film navigates dimly lit subway stations, hidden warehouses, and abandoned church spaces, creating a mood of pressure and urgency. John races against time and enemies, piecing clues together with Father Porter’s reluctant emotional support. Despite the heavy dialogue about redemption and faith, the action often feels generic, and the pacing is sluggish.
Angel’s innocence motivates John’s fight, and viewers may empathise with his mission to protect a vulnerable child.
