What Happens in Vegas

In the bustling city of New York, Joy Ellis McNally, a high-strung commodity futures trader, throws a surprise birthday party for her fiancé, Mason, only to be dumped by him at the party. At the same time, Jack Fuller Jr., an easy-going carpenter, is fired by his father, Jack Sr. Both devastated and with their best friends in tow, they decide to take a debauched trip to Las Vegas.

Fate brings Joy and Jack together when they are given the same hotel room due to a computer error. They party and drink together and end up getting married, but they both agree that it was a mistake and plan to divorce. However, Jack uses a quarter that Joy gives him in a slot machine and hits a three million dollar jackpot. Joy reminds him that they are married, and hence she is entitled to half the money.

Upon returning to New York, they attempt to divorce, but the judge declares they cannot do so until they attempt to co-exist for six months while attending weekly sessions with a marriage counsellor. If they still want to divorce after six months, they can keep half the winnings each, but if either party does not cooperate, the money will be tied up in litigation.

The couple devises various schemes to undermine each other, but as they work on their marriage, they unexpectedly find themselves attracted to each other. When it's time for the judge to decide what happens to the money, Joy sees Mason, who tells her he wants her back. She thinks Jack set her up with Mason to cheat on him and guarantee the divorce. However, at the hearing, the marriage counsellor testifies that the couple worked on the marriage, and the judge decides they will split the remaining 1.4 million dollars.

Joy declines the promotion offered to her, telling her boss she would rather be happy doing nothing than miserable doing something she hates. Jack realises his mistake and goes to find Joy. He proposes, and she says yes.

In the end, they get married, and their friends enact a plan of revenge on Mason, while Hater cuts off Dave during the closing credits. The film showcases how love can emerge from the unlikeliest of places and how working on a relationship can lead to unexpected happiness.
