Digital migration deadline

Over four million households could face an information blackout if government’s digital migration process is pushed through.

So says eMedia CEO Khalik Sherrif who’s thrown down the gauntlet saying government should take a phased approach.

Communications minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni is adamant the switchover process must be done by March next year. This means analogue transmitters will be switched off across the country.

eMedia Holdings is now considering legal action over the digital migration deadline. Sheriff says the switch-off date may have to be decided by the courts.

Justine Limpitlaw a leading electronic communications lawyer with Wits University also believes this process cannot be implemented overnight.
