A mother's worst nightmare has positive ending

Nosipho Nkantini, a nurse in the public sector, was six months pregnant when she contracted COVID-19 at the end of December.

Nkantini suffered severe symptoms, and was transferred to Netcare N1 City in Cape Town.

She lost consciousness and was placed on a ventilator. When she woke up days later,

she was told that her baby boy, Oyena had been delivered by emergency C-section.

Still disorientated, she left the hospital and while recovering at home,

convinced herself that the baby had died.

Three weeks later, there was a knock at her door.

Nosipho Nkantini joined us to tell us what happened next.

Dr Ricky Dippenaar, who is a neonatologist at Netcare N1 City Hospital helped take care of the baby boy,

while he was in the neonatal intensive care unit. He joined to tell us more about

Nosipho’s experience and how they tracked her down to reunite them both.
