What is the role of the deputy president?

President Cyril Ramaphosa admitted yesterday that he considered resigning as Deputy President while his predecessor Jacob Zuma was in office.

The president even went as far as saying the deputy president's role had no teeth. 

Senior research fellow and political economist Lebohang Pheko says she wasn’t surprised by these comments.
