The Cookout

After signing a $30 million contract with his hometown basketball team, Todd Andersen (Quran Pender) moves into a luxurious new house in the prestigious Garden Ridges Estates with his girlfriend Brittany (Meagan Good). To honour family tradition, Todd decides to host a family reunion cookout at his new place. However, his plans are disrupted when his eccentric family members arrive early and clash with an important business meeting arranged by his agent Wes (Jonathan Silverman) with company representative Miss Peters (Marci Reed).

As Todd's family and neighbours, like Judge Crowley (Danny Glover) and his wife Eileen (Farrah Fawcett), begin to arrive, local hood Bling Bling (Ja Rule) and his friend Wheezer (Ruperto Vanderpool) plan to steal Todd's autograph and become rich by selling signed sneakers on eBay. After a series of mishaps, they hold Brittany at gunpoint and force her to drive them to Todd's house. Todd starts to worry about his image as his family's antics make a poor impression on his neighbours; and he snaps at everyone to leave.

After a heart-to-heart with his childhood friend Becky (Eve), Todd apologises to his mother and reconciles with his family. He breaks up with Brittany and starts dating Becky, realising her gold-digging ways and inability to connect with him and his family. Bling Bling and Wheezer are defeated by Mildred (Queen Latifah); and Todd secures the sponsorship deal with Miss Peters impressed by his family's unconditional love for him.

In the end, Todd scores 26 points in his debut for the New Jersey Nets, and he and Becky use the car bed he slept in during his childhood. Jamal completes med school and breaks up with Brittany three times, while Little Dee finally gets a father figure for her kids and moves in next to Todd. Leroy fails his bar exam for the 16th time, but his golf ball conspiracy book becomes a bestseller. Mildred leaves Garden Ridges and becomes a cop, writing out different tickets for the Andersons and throwing a cookout in her honour.

In conclusion, Todd's life changes drastically after signing the contract, but he remains grounded by hosting a family reunion cookout. Despite all the chaos, he learns the importance of family and love, leading to a brighter future.
