Alcohol ban will ease strain on healthcare workers

The alcohol ban has angered and frustrated many in South Africa.

But, the Medical Research Council says the banning alcohol for two months could free up to 50 000 beds in the trauma units of health care facilities.

To talk to us about their projections, we spoke to Professor Charles Parry, Director of the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Research Unit, at the South African Medical Research Council.

We also reached out to the Beer Association of South Africa for comment, but it unfortunately cancelled just before going on air.
