COVID-19: Restrictions and vaccines

Professor Salim Abdool Karim, South Africa’s leading epidemiologist,

was awarded the prestigious John Maddox Prize, which he shares with US expert, Dr Anthony Fauci.

President Cyril Ramaphosa said that as an advisor and an ambassador for science,

Professor Karim has enabled public understanding and has influenced our response to the pandemic.

The award comes as South Africa faces new records in COVID-19 infections.
