COVID-19 shuts down more schools

Yet another school in the Eastern Cape has suspended classes due to COVID-19 cases.

This means at least 89 schools in the province remains closed.

The Congress of South African Students says more must be done to protect pupils there from further COVID-19 infections. Cosas has also given government an ultimatum to vaccinate all school pupils. It says if government fails to do so it will shut down all schools in the province.

Speaking to us on Friday the Eastern Cape Department of Education says schools which have more than 30 positive case should temporarily close their doors.
