Public Protector implicates E Cape Premier

It's been a bad day for the ANC and government in the Eastern Cape.

The Public Protector has found that Premier Oscar Mabuyane used R450 000 of public funds to renovate his private home.

While revealing newly completed investigations in Pretoria, Busisiwe Mkhwebane said R1.1 million, meant to be used for the memorial service of Winnie Madikizela Mandela in 2018 was privately used by politicians.

Mkhwebane says Mabuyane, who was Economic Development MEC at the time denied any knowledge of the money being transferred to a design company. Despite his wife having emailed the contractors that the payment was for renovations on the family's home.

Mkhwebane says based on the evidence found, she has referred Mabuyane’s conduct for criminal investigations.
