School year to continue amid COVID-19 pandemic

The Department of Basic Education says the school year in South Africa, 

will not be scrapped because of COVID-19.

The department says there is a high possibility that the school holidays,

in September and November, will be shorter to try and make up some time.

Pupils usually spend around 200 days in class during the normal school year.

But, should the school year be cancelled due to the coronavirus?

We spoke to Professor Jonathan Jansen,

an education expert at the Stellenbosch University, about the different scenarios.
