Kelly grew up in the rural outskirts of Nquthu in KwaZulu-Natal and was discovered in 2003 when she performed at a Gospel Star search.
Kelly's debut album, TKO was released in August 2005 to much acclaim with the hit song ‘Qinisela’. The album was nominated twice at the South African Music Awards (SAMA) and she was the only female artist nominated in the Song of the Year category.
Her first television acting role was on the SABC1 drama series Mtunzini.com. And starred in Rhythm City on e.tv in 2007, when she was chosen to play Sunay, the role of a singer, which was very close to her own persona as a singer.
Kelly also featured in one of the Mzansi Love dramas that aired on e.tv in August 2012. And later that year starred in the second season of the e.tv docu-reality series Rolling With... which documented her life as she tried to reclaim her crown as the queen of South African popular music.
Kelly released an album called “Back to my Roots” last year 2014, which was nominated for the Best African Pop Album for Metro FM Awards & SAMA awards.
