With the current political and racial climate in the US and the world, there has never been a better time to tell this radical story.

The Book of Negroes is a TV mini-series based on a novel by Lawrence Hill. The book, and ultimately the series, was inspired by the freeing and evacuation of British slaves, who were termed Black Loyalists and had left their masters during the American Revolutionary War.

The story follows an 11-year-old, Aminata Diallo, who is taken from her village in West Africa, dragged in chains and sold into slavery. Aminata who struggles under the regime of black slavery, somehow finds happiness in her marriage, children, family, friends and community. However, Aminata’s one main goal is to find her way back home. The viewer is exposed to Aminata’s ups and downs and ultimate journey to freedom.

The Book of Negroes features a variety of cast members, including legendary Academy Award nominees and winners.
