Jerome is a talented musician and a charming ‘boy next door’ type. He is however very conflicted regarding culture, the minstrels, and his father’s Goema music - which he feels is blackface and ‘dancing for your supper’ type music.
His father GERSHWIN was a legend in CAPE TOWN, a great musician, a nightclub owner, and an activist against Apartheid – loved by all. He wants to be a successful musician (in his own right) but comes to understand at the end of the film that what he really needs is his family's love and support.
