Land of Mills & Money: Meet the Simelane's

The Simelanes are the beating heart of Land of Mills and Money  a loud, loving, chaotic family where everyone has something to say, everyone has an opinion, and somehow, nobody is ever really listening.

Bound together by love, faith, family and plenty of drama, the Simelane household is never short of surprises. Behind the prayers, strong personalities and picture-perfect appearances lies a family constantly navigating ambition, loyalty, secrets and the complicated business of loving one another.

Phiwe Simelane – The Fixer

Driven, ambitious, and fiercely loyal, Phiwe always feels the need to take charge. At 28, she has high standards, a strong sense of responsibility and very little patience for nonsense. Whether it is her family or her career, Phiwe is determined to come out on top.

A talented athlete who represented her province during her school years before joining the Police Academy, Phiwe is disciplined and focused — at least until the people she loves are involved. A natural rule-follower, she finds herself increasingly torn between doing what is right, protecting her family and following her heart when it comes to Muzi.

Pastor Caiphus – The Performer

Charismatic, proud and impossible to ignore, Pastor Caiphus knows exactly how to command a room. His sermons come complete with rhythm, timing and the occasional punchline, making him as entertaining as he is passionate about his faith.

People may come to church for the Word, but they often stay for Caiphus. Despite his undeniable charm and dedication, however, his church has yet to grow into the thriving ministry he dreams of building — something that weighs heavily on his pride. Especially when the business across the road seems to be doing just fine.

Mam’ Dee – The Gatekeeper

Beautiful, composed and fiercely protective of her family's image, Mam’ Dee is the woman who keeps the Simelane household in order. Traditional, strategic and always aware of how things appear to the outside world, she sets the standard for what is acceptable — and what is not.

As the face of the church and a respected figure in the community, Mam’ Dee takes great pride in the life she and Caiphus have built. But when it comes to her children, she is never one to stand back and watch simply. She has a habit of involving herself in their lives, ensuring that nothing and no one threatens the family image she has worked so hard to protect.

Khaya Simelane – The Chameleon

At 19, Khaya is the youngest of the Simelanes and, according to his parents, the easy child. He is respectful, low-key and seemingly stays out of trouble or at least, that's what he wants everyone to believe.

Observant and smart, Khaya is always watching and always learning. He knows exactly what version of himself to show to each member of his family, giving Phiwe just enough information to keep her from asking too many questions. Quietly navigating the chaos around him, Khaya may appear chilled and uncomplicated, but there is always more going on beneath the surface.
