Tickets - Crystal
A promising, bright young woman. Crystal carries what she feels is the burden of her mother’s expectation. Stream Tickets on eVOD from 8 March.
Her dad died of a drug overdose many years ago. She was a kid, so her memories of him are sparse and her mom never speaks of him… but in no way does her lack of a relationship with a father contribute to her terrible taste in men… Not at all, she thinks.
Currently, she is in a relationship with a wannabe rapper and small-time gangster, Grant- a small fish in a pond. She thinks he’s cool and she likes that he likes her. She is caught in the amazing dichotomy of knowing that she is smarter than everyone and can do whatever she sets her mind on, yet also knowing for a fact that she will never amount to anything.
She is, however, motivated to sing… Like, really sing. Recording artist singing. The kind you see at the Grammy. She sings for events and parties on the weekend and makes enough to get by, but not enough to be satisfied. She wants more, but never says it, because in her experience ambition is frowned upon and ridiculed.
She feels her mother doesn’t understand her; and that Phylis is trying to control her. She thinks that getting out from under her mother’s roof is the only way to achieve her goal of being a singer - Phylis doesn’t see singing as a viable career option.
