Samke Magwaza is originally from the North West Province of SA and has lived in Munsiville township for over a year now, staying with her brother, Kwanele, who provides for her and her young son, Sebo. She came to Joburg after her parents died and to be closer to the bigger hospitals in Joburg as Sebo needs constant medical attention.

Her brother, Kwanele, is the only breadwinner who works to provide money for the household and the treatment for the boy. Little does she know that he funds their upkeep through crime, more specifically, being the explosives guy in an ATM bombing gang. She finds this out in the space of a rollercoaster twenty-four hours in which: her brother arrives shot and bleeding, hiding a tog-bag of explosives and money from an ATM bombing gone wrong; Samke arrives home from the hospital where she’s had to rush her son to in an ambulance because of renal failure; her brother’s body being whisked away; she is being interrogated by the police about her involvement in a crime she knows nothing about and demands for her to reveal the whereabouts of a bag.

She gives nothing away and hides her shock at finding that the hidden bag is full of explosives and other items that mean nothing to her at this point. The rude awakening forces her out of her routine life. She needs to bury her brother and find a job ASAP. As if he’s a fairy godmother, local criminal Mandla offers her work in his tavern, claiming to have been a good friend of her brother’s. She decides to accept the job in a tavern that doubles up as a strip club, keep her head down and make some pennies.

But her humble job becomes a drop in the ocean when her son’s medical problems get complicated, and he is given a short time to live. He could get on a waiting list for surgery, but he’d be dead by then. She needs a private hospital, but a private hospital needs money, lots of it.

She makes a hasty decision and bumbles her way through an ATM bombing by herself at the superette she works as a cashier at. She manages to get some money to secure her son a spot for surgery. But that’s just the beginning and in order to get the money she will need help; she will need the guts to trespass on a dangerous gang’s territory and she will have to alter her principles as she embarks on a crime spree in order to save her son, whatever it takes.
