Every family has a story, but the Shozi family? They have a whole drama series unfolding right in their Umlazi living room. After a devastating turn of events, three generations are packed into one house, trying to navigate life, loss, and the hustle of starting from scratch.

The Shozi household is a pressure cooker of generational clashes, financial strain, and fierce love. Let’s pull back the curtain and meet the unforgettable characters making up the main household:

• Rebecca Shozi (The Weight Bearer): The rock of the family. After being unjustly accused of killing her husband, his family kicked her and her kids out with nothing. Now back in her mother’s house as a "return soldier" (umabuya emendweni), she’s working herself to the bone to rebuild from absolute zero.
• Malume Jacob, AKA “MyBoy” (The Forgotten Uncle): Rebecca’s older brother. Despite having a university degree, he’s been unemployed for years and lives off a R370 social grant. He masks his deep shame with township "showmanship," bravado, and being the local know-it-all.
• Gogo Shozi (The Stylish Matriarch): Forget the quiet, knitting grandmother stereotype. Gogo is colorful, animated, and a certified lover of showbiz (she’ll never let you forget she dated a member of the Soul Brothers!). She also openly dotes on her golden child, Jacob.
• Ayalanga Shozi (The Boxer with a Punch): Jacob’s Grade 8 daughter, recently dumped at Gogo’s doorstep after being expelled for fighting. Aya is a boxing prodigy. While Gogo tries to force her into traditional chores, Aya uses the gym to escape the chaos and truly be herself.
