A Legend Rises: e.tv Debuts Its First Limited Series, The Phoenix
The landscape of South African television is shifting. On 7 April 2026, e.tv makes history with the premiere of The Phoenix, the channel’s first-ever limited drama series.
Crafted by SAFTA award-winning scriptwriter Siphosethu Tshapu, this isn't just another drama—it’s a bold, high-stakes exploration of reinvention and the ruthless price of power.
The Plot: From Trophy Wife to Tycoon
Set within the cut-throat world of cannabis farming, the story follows Kholeka (played by Tango Ncetezo). When her tycoon husband is murdered, Kholeka goes from "materialistic trophy wife" to the prime suspect overnight.
To clear her name and salvage a crumbling empire, she must navigate:
- A Male-Dominated Industry: Proving she’s a leader, not a liability.
- Vulture-like In-Laws: Warding off relatives eager to snatch the inheritance.
- The Ultimate Betrayal: Falling for her husband’s ally, Mawande, only to discover his potential links to the murder.
Just as she finds her footing, the arrival of an illegitimate heir threatens to burn her progress to the ground. Like the mythical bird she's named after, Kholeka must decide if she will crumble or rise from the ashes.
A Powerhouse Cast
The series boasts a stellar ensemble that brings this "green gold" world to life:
- Tango Ncetezo as Kholeka
- Dumisani Mbebe
- Zikhona Bali
- Yonda Thomas
- Brenda Ngxoli
Why It Matters
The Phoenix marks a new chapter for e.tv, signaling a move toward premium, character-driven storytelling in a shorter, more intense format. It’s a story of resilience that asks a haunting question: When everything is stripped away, who are you really?
Don’t miss the premiere of The Phoenix on e.tv, 7 April at 7PM.
