24 students have been arrested after protests spread to Bloemfontein in the Free State this week. Students are unhappy with the registration process at the
University of the Free State and the issue of financial exclusion.
Professor Francis Petersen, the rector and vice-chancellor at the university,
says they have plans in place assist students who qualify to study, but can’t afford to register.

Students from the University of Pretoria joined the protests against financial exclusion on Thursday.

This comes just a day after violent clashes between students and police,
in Braamfontein, in Johannesburg.

A civilian died in the clashes.

The Sheriff has served final notices to artists staging a sit-in at the offices of the National Arts Council in Johannesburg. The group has vowed to continue its demonstration despite an eviction order to clear the premises. They waited years for a clinic and when no help came residents in Mthombe village in the Eastern Cape, decided to offer their own money to help the provincial health department build them a clinic.
