Set against the backdrop of the picturesque Cape Winelands, Snake weaves a gripping narrative centered around ten-year-old Stella and her family, who live as impoverished squatters on a farm. Their lives take a turn with the arrival of a charismatic stranger named Jerry.

At first, Jerry seems to be a positive influence. Stella is relieved to see her father stay sober and her mother rediscover her laughter. However, Stella's hope soon turns to suspicion when she begins to believe that Jerry may have murdered a policeman.

Jerry manipulates Stella, coercing her into lying on his behalf. As a twisted reward for her silence, he gifts her a beautiful silver flute.
