The South African National Taxi Council has outlined its plans to ensure that all road users,
arrive alive this Easter period. With many South Africans expected to hit the road,
Santaco says there are special plans in place to ensure that its members adhere to the COVID-19 protocols. Santaco’s chief strategic manager, Bafana Magagula says there will also be a focus on road safety and road worthiness. Magagula warned against overloading and wrecklessness.

‘It’s a mental struggle and you live with it every day’. These are the words of Yaseen Kippie who joined us to tell us about his long journey with COVID-19. He says it’s a big worry that people still don’t take the virus seriously and encouraged others to take the necessary steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

COVID-19 has been around for more than a year now and it's certainly taken its toll on us physically, and mentally. We caught up with psychologist, Puleng Segalo to discuss the mental challenges one faces during a pandemic. She says the virus has impacted people in different ways and encouraged those who need help to speak up.

It seems that cluster infections are driving community transmissions of COVID-19 in the Free State. Health Minister Zweli Mhkize believes the province is already in the third wave following a sharp rise in infections recently. There are almost 5 000 active cases in the province which is only set to climb. Free State Health MEC Montseng Tsiu spoke to us on Thursday.

A new study on how COVID-19 impacts HIV positive patients has shed light on how the virus mutates. Last week, South African scientists released the findings of their study which showed that an HIV positive woman carried the coronavirus for eight months.
The study shows that the virus mutated 32 times and developed the three key mutations that make up the 501Y.V2 variant.
But what does this mean going forward?

The final wave of results from the NIDS-Corona Virus Rapid Mobile Survey show that the vast majority of South Africans are eager to be vaccinated.
But the results also show just how devastating the pandemic has been overall.

With the highly transmissible Delta variant driving the third wave surge in the Western Cape, public health experts warn of a looming peak as severe, if not worse, than the second wave. The province has over 18 500 active cases and has already surpassed its first wave peak, recording a 51% spike in infections week on week.

Epidemiologists warn the COVID-19 disease pattern seen in Gauteng will likely repeat elsewhere in the country as the dominant Delta variant takes hold. The variant, first detected in India, is already showing prevalence in the Western Cape,

The coronavirus third wave peak is forecast to be just over a week away in the Western Cape. The province is recording up to 90 deaths a day. Currently there are over 34 000 active COVID-19 cases and 10% of those infected require critical care in hospital. Field hospitals in Paarl and Mitchell’s Plain are being brought online to help ease the load of hospital admissions. To tell us more, we were joined by our reporter Natalie Malgas.

Yet another school in the Eastern Cape has suspended classes due to COVID-19 cases.
This means at least 89 schools in the province remains closed.
The Congress of South African Students says more must be done to protect pupils there from further COVID-19 infections. Cosas has also given government an ultimatum to vaccinate all school pupils. It says if government fails to do so it will shut down all schools in the province.
Speaking to us on Friday the Eastern Cape Department of Education
says schools which have more than 30 positive case should temporarily close their doors.
