The Electronic Vaccination Data System is officially live. That means registration is now open for phase two of the national vaccination rollout plan.
But currently, only people who are 60-years old and older, may register.
Phase two vaccinations are scheduled to take place from May to October.

South Africans over sixty are registering their details online this evening to get the vaccine once it becomes available.It’s no doubt a landmark in the local fight against COVID-19.
But Wits University’s Professor Francois Venter says the vaccine rollout is far too slow.

Last night, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize announced a new set of goals for our vaccine program and revealed new details about how and when
more South Africans can expect to roll up their sleeves. To give us all the new details regarding Phase two we were joined by our producer Nic Andersen.

Phase two of the national vaccination rollout begins today.
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize confirmed that 87 vaccination sites will be open
for healthcare workers and people who are over 60 years of age.
Our reporter Riante Padayachee has been keeping an eye on how things are going today.
She joined us live from Johannesburg for an update.

It's that time of the year where parents are frantically trying to secure places for their children at schools for the new academic year. This year's Gauteng online admissions process for 2022 has been divided into two phases. Phase one catered for pupils who are currently in Grade 7at public schools and who are applying for a Grade 8 spot. That phase ended on the 3rd of September. Phase two opened yesterday and is meant for pupils either starting Grade 1 or Grade 8 in 2022. But who are not currently in a public school. Gauteng education department spokesperson, Steve Mabona explained that capacity is a challenge,
because of the number of applications they receive.

“That is our goal and if you don’t believe we will never get there.”
This is the word from the CEO of the Independent Community Pharmacy Association, Jackie Maimin, who joined us on Thursday for an in-depth discussion on their plans to help government with its vaccine rollout plans. She realises that is going to be a mammoth task to be able to vaccinate 40 million South Africans by the end of the year.
But Maimin believes it can be done if all stakeholders work together.

South Africa’s Phase 2 vaccine drive is underway.
Around 200 000 Pfizer jabs have been delivered so far.
But those jabs are being delivered at an average of 24,000 a day, nationally.
According to the Bhekisisa Centre for Health Journalism that’s half of the national daily target.
By Friday 1800 vaccine sites had received permits to operate.
But when will they start administering the jabs?

Meanwhile says about 27 independent pharmacies are currently
delivering vaccines at the moment, and more will follow.

There’ll be no end in sight to the COVID-19 pandemic unless global pharmaceutical giants boost vaccine supply to poorer countries. That’s the warning by Amnesty International,
who has accused these companies of fuelling a human rights crisis. Amnesty International's latest report has revealed that AstraZeneca, BioNTech, Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, Novavax and Pfizer, are refusing to waive intellectual property rights. Amnesty International SA's Executive Director, Shenilla Mohamed says these companies are failing
to meet their human rights responsibilities.

In exactly two weeks, people who are 60-years and older will be among the first ordinary citizens, to get their COVID-19 vaccine.
That's when phase two of the national vaccination rollout program will kick-off.
Last night over 320 000 Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines arrived in the country and government says by the end of June, it expects to receive 4.5 million doses. The two-dose vaccine has been long awaited and was the first to receive emergency use approval, internationally.
