The COVID-19 resurgence in the Western Cape has forced authorities to close facilities and some events in the Garden Route.

Coronavirus tracking teams have traced cluster outbreaks to public events and private parties in recent weeks.

To prevent the spread of the virus over the festive season provincial officials are closing public facilities and venues in the region.

It looks like the second COVID-19 wave along the Garden Route is worse than the first.

Authorities have now closed all municipal venues and cancelled events to try and stem the spread of the virus.
But as the number of COVID cases continue to climb in Knysna and George,
the need for hospitalisation has also increased which is putting a massive strain on the health system.

The COVID-19 pandemic has left some businesses reeling,
while others are seeing some glimmer of hope.

While holiday accommodation and activities are down,
some people are opting to escape the city life,
and settle somewhere quieter.

It's seen house prices in some areas of the Garden Route,
increase.

The Garden Route is now officially a COVID-19 hotspot.

President Cyril Ramaphosa made the declaration during a family meeting on Monday.

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde is holding his weekly digicon to update residents about how this year's festive season celebrations in public spaces,
will be affected.
He will also outline how the City of Cape Town avoided a clamp down.
