Delta putting strain on healthcare facilities

More provinces are beginning to feel the devastating effects of the third wave.
KZN, along with the Western and Northern Cape are beginning to see a sharp rise in cases
but Gauteng remains the epicentre of the country.The National Health Department held
a briefing this morning and outlined what’s being done to ease the pressure on our healthcare system. Our reporter Riante Padayachee gave an update on this earlier.

Gauteng’s healthcare system is buckling under the pressure of soaring coronavirus cases.
In December, the Beta variant drove South Africa’s second COVID-19 wave.
But this time around, the Delta variant, which was first identified in India has begun wreaking havoc. It's 97% more transmissible than the original Wuhan strain first identified in China. Gauteng now accounts for of 65% of new daily cases and experts say only vaccinations can help us now. Rianté Padayachee reports.

Deloitte Africa's newly appointed CEO says she didn’t expect reach this level when she started way back in 1997. Redfearn says once she takes office transformation and restoring the trust in the audit profession will be high on her agenda.

Defence minister reprimanded over ANC Zim trip

President Cyril Ramaphosa has reprimanded Defence Minister, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula,
for allowing an ANC delegation to hitch a ride with her to Zimbabwe, earlier this month.

Ramaphosa says her salary will be docked for three months.

The drilling project in an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico faces technical malfunctions. However, the workers scramble to survive the disastrous situation after a massive explosion takes place.

Deepwater Horizon, an oil drilling rig operated by private contractor Transocean, is set to complete drilling off the southern coast of Louisiana on behalf of BP. Chief Electronics Technician Michael "Mike" Williams and Offshore Installation Manager James "Mr. Jimmy" Harrell are surprised to learn that the workers assigned to test the integrity of recently completed cement work are being sent home early, without conducting a cement bond log (CBL), at the insistence of BP managers Donald Vidrine and Robert Kaluza. While Mike prepares the drilling team, including Caleb Holloway, Harrell meets with Vidrine and persuades him to conduct a negative pressure test, which indicates the cement has not properly sealed the well from the high-pressure reservoir. Vidrine disputes the test finding and orders a second test. After concluding the second test was a success, Vidrine orders the rig to remove the drilling mud and prepare the rig to move to its next job.
