A report by the National Institute of Communicable Diseases, into a cluster outbreak at the KwaZulu-Natal festival,
revealed that two youngsters tested positive for COVID-19 days before the Rage festival.

However, they still attended the event.

The South African economy has slipped into further recession, confirming the impact of the national lockdown and COVID-19 on the economy.

Data released by Statistics South Africa revealed that our economy declined by 51% in the second quarter of the year.

President Cyril Ramaphosa dismissed rumours that the country will return to hard lockdown, but he has admitted that there are worrying trends, relating to COVID-19 infections. While the infection numbers have been dropping, there has been an increase in new infections in some parts of the country. So what could be causing this? Are we still strictly obeying the basic precautions, like wearing a mask?

President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to call another family meeting this week,
to address some of ‘worrying trends’ like the recent COVID-19 infection rates.

Many are concerned about where do we stand while Europe and some American states,
Are experiencing a record-setting second wave of infections.

To get an idea of where we stand in terms of a second wave,
we spoke to Professor Salim Abdool Karim who co-chairs the ministerial advisory committee on COVID-19.

Pressure is mounting on the Western Cape’s health department as COVID-19 cases are increasing in the province.

Some of the areas recording the highest number of infections include George, Knysna and Mossel Bay.

The Western Cape government is seeking legal advice over localised restrictions, as the province records a resurgence in coronavirus cases.

The province is looking to reintroduce stricter COVID-measures in hotspots like the Garden Route and the Cape metro.

The restrictions, under the national state of disaster, include potentially extending the curfew and reducing number of people allowed at social gatherings.

So when we eventually get called to register to be vaccinated for COVID-19 and receive our vaccine appointment, will we be able to choose which vaccine we’d like to have? Speaking to Melanie Rice on Wednesday, Ministerial Advisory Committee Chair, Professor Salim Abdool Karim, explained that it won’t be that simple.
He also outlined how far we are in terms of acquiring more COVID-19 vaccines.

The International Labour Organization,

many of them women and young people .

Addressing the country during the latest family meeting last night, President Cyril Ramaphosa said no one will be forced to take the COVID-19 vaccine, nor will the vaccine be administered in secret.

Reality is though, your colleague or boss may not be happy, to know that you have not been vaccinated.

Aslam Patel, an associate and attorney at Adams and Adams, who joined us via Skype says the courts will have a battle on their hands in dealing with these kind of scenarios.
