Unicef South Africa has made an urgent call to increase vaccine confidence among young people. According to a survey Unicef conducted only 55% of more than 5000 young people
under the age of 25 indicated that they would take the vaccine but only if it was recommended to them. 22% said they were opposed to getting the vaccine and the rest were unsure about receiving the jab. Unicef South Africa's representative Christine Muhigana joined us to unpack these findings
and to explore how we can ensure young people are confident about the vaccine.

Two Zimbabwean brothers, Oscar Daniels and Gilbert Njanji, are demanding justice.

They were granted bail in the Polokwane Magistrate's court on Tuesday.

Police say Daniels was shot by the officers on the 2nd of January while attempting to escape arrest for not wearing a mask while in his yard.

After the shooting incident, the community attacked the police.

The lives of refugee women children and the LGBTI community are at risk if they remain undocumented. That’s the argument put forward by Lawyers for Human Rights in a legal challenge against the Home Affairs Department. Two civil society bodies want the court to compel the department to reopen the Cape Town Refugee Reception Centre,
which was shut down in 2017. The centre provides a safe haven for refugees.

Undertakers, especially in the Western Cape have raised concerns about a pending shortage of coffins. The concerns come amid a dramatic increase in deaths from COVID-19 related complications within the last few weeks. The World Health Organization says infections in Africa have increased over the past month with the death rate rising by 15% across 38 African countries. The South African Funeral Practioners Association's spokesperson, Monageng Legae says they are under pressure and alarmed by what they are seeing.
