New Show: Coke Studio
A new music reality show, Coke Studio, featuring Mi Casa and Cassper Nyovest premieres tonight at 8:30PM.
Following the show’s success in Brazil and Pakistan, Coke Studio has now become an international franchise with South Africa adopting a local version.
Coke Studio will allow viewers to see some of the best local musicians get together to create hit songs from scratch with the help of award-winning South African music producers.
Artists from different music genres will be paired up in the Coke Studio and given three days to create great tracks, fusing different music styles.
The episodes will focus on the interaction between the artists, the art of writing a song as well as the mixing, recording and performing processes.
“We are pleased to partner with Coke Studio on this new, electrifying music reality show. As the entertainment destination of choice it is only fitting that we have a show that celebrates creative sounds created by top musicians from the continent. We believe that our viewers will enjoy Coke Studio, which showcases the wealth of musical talent Africa has to offer,” said Monde Twala, MD for e.tv Channels Division.
In the first episode, multi-award winning artists, Mi Casa and Cassper Nyovest team up to create a track in one day. Artists Mathew Gold and Bongo Riot also collaborate in the Coke Studio to create a fusion of reggae and funk, with surprising and inspiring results.
Top African artists such as Donald, Goodluck, Uhuru, Oliver Mtukudzi from Zimbabwe, Black Motion and Salma from Tanzania will be featured on the show.
The new artists from Coke Studio RAW will be given the opportunity to progress to the second phase where they’ll work with the big league music producers - should their demo song make the cut.
